Your extensions can be styled just like your natural hair. I always recommend a heat protectant when heat styling to protect your extensions and enable you to get the most life out of your hair.
I recommend sleeping on a silk pillow case. Always sleep with your hair braided or tucked back into a low ponytail or bun. Make sure you brush your hair before bed and when you wake up. Using a hair oil before bed is a great habit to get into. Just apply the oil to the ends of your natural hair and the extensions.I start applying it below my chin, not at my roots or the top of the wefts.
Use a sulfate & paraben-free shampoo & conditioner that adds moisture, I use and sell IGK and Virtue products. Avoid any use of bond-building or protein enriched products (Olaplex/ K18) on the extensions. This overproduction of protein on the hair can cause the hair to feel “straw like” eventually leading to breakage. Rinse with cold water to seal moisture into your cuticle. Avoid washing everyday, use dry shampoo as needed. You can also wash just the top/crown of your head in the sink to extend the style of your extensions. Be sure to ask me how if you're unsure of how this would work! Use a deep conditioner every week to maintain the hair quality.
When swimming it's recommended to wear your hair up in a high bun and avoid saltwater, chlorine and sunscreen getting on your extensions. All of these things can lead to damage or discoloration which can be permanent. If you do plan on getting your hair wet make sure to have a leave-in conditioner and brush handy to minimize damage.
Hair extensions need a lot of hydration since they don't receive oil from your scalp like your natural hair does. We want to avoid drying or strengthening products like Olaplex and K18 because they can cause extensions to become brittle, straw-like and have more breakage than normal. Weekly deep conditioning masques, hair oils and leave in conditioners will help with extension longevity.
